An orchestra that leaves the music stands at home. Every musician is on wireless so they can dance, sing, swap instruments and move across the stage, and the programme jumps from Mozart and Strauss to film music, samba, tango and rock — often inside the same piece. That means constant changes in sound, endless mute and scene programming, and almost no rehearsal time to do it in.
We built the shows around the freedom the project is about: everything wireless, settings shifting with each instrument change and vocal moment, and enough preparation up front that spontaneity on stage never became a technical problem. The team ran monitors and FOH, alongside Benjamin Wuthe; the Prague concert recorded by Czech TV and the Dubai broadcast for ORF were mixed afterwards at our Vienna headquarters, as was Kinescope's documentary on the founding of the orchestra.
Two programmes across five houses — with Hans Zimmer on stage in Dubai and Hyung-ki Joo joining for the autumn run — delivered live and in broadcast, with the improvisation and choreography intact.
