Arts & Tonic grew out of nearly twenty years of work under PDV Records, founded by Volker, Philipp and David. PDV's clients know them for their reliability and trustworthiness — most have stayed since their very first project. When Pit and Benedikt joined, the plan wasn't just a rebrand. It was the next chapter: same standards, new voice and wider scope, while maintaining a small and personal team.
We work across studio production, live sound and broadcast, often on the same project. All five of us studied Tonmeister at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. We look at projects from their musical side and love to tailor technical solutions around artistic intentions. We're drawn to projects that move between genres and don't come with a standard approach.
Most of our work arrives through people we've worked with before — CD-productions, open-air opera, amplified orchestra crossovers, multi-day broadcasts — which we take as a good sign about how we prepare and stay reachable.

Pit has always been fascinated by the creative use of technology to shape sound. He sees solutions and not problems when handling complex setups and systems. Behind the console, his heart beats for music – especially mixing orchestra, opera and musical theatre.

Volker is our genuine multi-talent. He combines a sharp technical mind with a creative ear. As sound designer and picture director for successful shows, and as CTO of Amadeus Acoustics GmbH, he is at home in venues around the world.

Philipp speaks fluent musician. He works alongside artists on stage and in the studio. His focus lies on acoustic instruments and ensembles, from intimate chamber groups to full orchestra. He brings his own musicality to every project and becomes a true creative partner to the artists he works with.

Benedikt handles the complex ones: multi-day recordings, hybrid broadcasts, and productions with too many moving parts to count. Then he counts them. His home turf is studio mixing and recording, across classical and far beyond – always with the same obsessive attention to detail.

David is a film score composer and producer. He writes music and designs sound worlds for picture, stage and record. An artist through and through, he seems to have ideas on tap – moving through all genres from orchestral to electronic. Films come alive through his scores, and his music editing is in a league of its own.
