A 75-minute opening ceremony under the congress theme 'Rays of Knowledge', staged as a classical Greek world in Hall A — with the Neue Wiener Stimmen choir and the Vienna Art Orchestra, soprano Angela Gheorghiu, a pop interlude, a live-to-film sequence and a long run of speeches in between. Two stages, around 256 input channels, a large number of in-ear mixes, and a live stream feeding the congress platform and the overflow rooms.
Two DiGiCo Quantum 7 consoles carried the show, with Amadeus Acoustics' ART Acoustics system giving the hall the tonal support a crossover programme of orchestra, choir, band and solo voice needs. A dedicated streaming mix ran alongside the room mix so the platform audience got a balance made for headphones and living rooms, not for a 2,000-seat auditorium.
An opening night that moved between Carmina Burana, opera, pop and spoken word without ever sounding like four different shows — and a stream that held up in every room it was sent to.
